Hair(UA, 1979), Alternate Comp Key Art by Bob Peak. This marvelous alternate comp key art for MiloŠ Forman’s film adaptation of the Broadway play is a pristine example of the immediately recognizable style and flare that defines the poster art designs of maestro Bob Peak. Painted at the height of his career, otherworldly hues of green and yellow serve as a backdrop for the magical embrace of John Berger (Treat Williams) and Sheila Franklin (Beverly D’Angelo), an explosion of light bursting out from between them. The joyful embrace and somber hues capture the spirit that defines the anti-war musical comedy drama. Accomplished with airbrush and gouache on 23.75″ x 30″ artist’s board with paste-up title treatment in ’60s-style font to bottom and the tagline “A celebration” beneath it with black transfer letters. Signed by the artist on the lower righthand corner. Matted to a full 31″ x 37.75″. Exhibits mild spots and scuffs to image area. The poster image is for reference only and is not included with this lot. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
